CORVETTES OF FRESNO GENERAL MEETING MINUTES June 17, 2008 CALL TO ORDER: Meeting
was called to order at 7:40 pm by President Allen Teixeira. Board Members present were Allen Teixeira,
Jon DeVoe, Debbie Dukes, Joan Kozera, and Kerry Dehmel. MEMBERSHIP: Jim Kozera introduced visitors
Jack Quigley and his son. Jack has a new
2008 black Corvette and he learned about COF from the internet. Jim presented a membership packet to new
members Don & Marcia Allor. Joan Kozera acknowledged the birthdays and
anniversaries for the month of June. SECRETARY’S REPORT: Allen
Teixeira called for a motion to forego the reading of the minutes of the May
20, 2008 meeting. Frank Stafford motioned
to forego the reading of the minutes and Billie Talley seconded. Motion approved. Frank Stafford motioned to accept the minutes and Bruce Looney
seconded. Minutes accepted. TREASURER’S REPORT: The
following payments were made for the month of May: $100.00 - American Legion
for room rental, $50.00 for June raffle prizes & $5.36 for a nametag
purchase. There were deposits of $65.00
from the May raffle, $6.00 from nametag sales and $150.00 from GMRS radio
sales. The balance of the General account is on file to be reviewed by
members only. From the Tahoe Account: $107.98
was paid for name badges and there were deposits of $3,691.00. The balance of the Tahoe account is on
file to be reviewed by members only. Bruce Looney made a motion
to approve the Treasurer’s report and Don Dukes seconded. Treasurer’s report
approved. COMMUNICATIONS: Kerry Dehmel gave a
newsletter to our visitors and he had more copies available for anyone who
wanted one. Kerry stated that we
would be sending around a sign-up sheet for anyone that would like to have
their newsletter emailed to them instead of being mailed to them. We could save Hedrick’s a considerable
amount in postage if several club members would agree to have their
newsletter emailed. If anyone has
anything they would like to submit for the newsletter please email it to
Kerry. Kerry stated that if anyone
wants their car to be on the cover of the newsletter to email a picture of it
to him. He does have cars for the
covers for July and August. WEBMASTER: Al Hall was not available to present the
Webmaster report. Allen explained to
our visitors that people from all over the world look at the Corvettes of
Fresno website and the website receives thousands of hits every month. Allen stated what a wonderful job Al does as
our webmaster and he is very much appreciated! ACTIVITIES, Past: Bert
Sherman reported on the Mystery Dinner Run / Poker Run that he and Patty
hosted on June 14th. They
had a very nice turnout for this event which consisted of a run through the
foothills ending up at the Lakeshore Resort at Huntington Lake for a delicious
Mexican buffet dinner! Bert purchased
a trophy to present to the winner of the Poker run and hopefully this trophy
will be passed around from year to year.
There is room on the trophy to have ten winners names engraved on
it. The Burkhart’s took first &
second place, John Ashley won the prize for last place. Allen reported on the
Valley Christian Center car show that took place on Father’s Day; June 15th. Our club had five cars that
participated. Phil Lacey won a trophy
for the best car in the “1976 – Present” category. They had raffle prizes and free coffee, donuts and hot dogs. Kent Burkhart thanked
everyone that came to his mortgage burning party on May 31st. He said he had a total of approximately 70
guests there and it was a lot of fun!
Kent donated a Clovis Fire Department T-shirt for our raffle. Thank you Kent! On a sad note, Kent reported that former COF member, Roland
Crane, died last month in a house fire.
Our condolences go out to his family. ACTIVITIES, Future: Please refer to the Calendar
of Events in the club newsletter or on the Club website, www.corvettesoffresno.com for
more details and up to date information. June 19th – 21st
is the Lake Tahoe Corvette Club event in Lake Tahoe. There are 8 cars from COF signed up to go. June 27th –
National drive your Corvette to work day August 2nd
–Female drivers run hosted by Joan Kozera.
The men are welcome to go as long as they are sitting in the passenger
seat! We need more volunteers
for dinner runs! The event calendar
is looking a little scarce! . TAHOE REPORT: Tahoe
40 will take place on September 11, 12, 13 & 14. Dave Cavanaugh reported
that 40 registrations have been received!
Dave showed the members the name badges that will be handed out at the
event. Tahoe 40 will have a Western
theme so if you have any Western attire please wear it! Dave will be having another Tahoe meeting
on Tuesday June 24th at 7:30 p.m. at Denny’s-Herndon &
Blackstone. OLD BUSINESS: Billie
Talley reported that she is taking orders for the club jackets. It will take approximately 2 – 3 months
for them to come in so if you are wanting a jacket for next winter, now is
the time to order it. Some members
that already have jackets will be bringing them to the meeting next month so
there will be different sizes available to try on. NEW BUSINESS: None The
next board meeting will be held at Denny’s at Herndon and Blackstone on July 1,
2008 at 7:00 pm. All members are
welcome to attend. The next general meeting will be held at The American
Legion at 7:30 pm on July 15, 2008.

of First Street at Dayton). NAME TAG DRAWING: Becky
Karlie’s name was drawn but she was not present to claim the prize. Next month’s drawing will be for $40.00. RAFFLES: Thank you
to Allen and Nancy Teixeira for providing the nice raffle prizes. Next month will be a 50 / 50 drawing. Don’t forget to save all of your losing
raffle tickets for the Christmas Second Chance drawing! Jerry
Najarian motioned the meeting be adjourned and Gene Fox seconded. The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m. Respectfully
